Gait Assessment & Conformation

Gait Assessment & Conformation

The Art and Science of Seeing Canine Movement

What is Gait & Conformation?

Conformation refers to the physical structure and “build” of a dog—how their bones and joints are aligned. Gait Assessment is the clinical observation of that structure in motion. By analyzing how a dog walks, trots, and stands, we can identify subtle lameness, compensatory patterns, and structural weaknesses that often lead to soft tissue injury. This assessment is the essential first step in creating an effective, individualized massage protocol.

Why Assessment Matters

Early Detection

Identify “micro-lameness” and structural imbalances before they develop into chronic pain or significant injury.

Targeted Therapy

Stop guessing where the tension is. Gait analysis tells you exactly which muscle groups are overworking to compensate for a weakness.

Performance Tracking

Objectively measure the success of your massage sessions by observing improvements in the dog’s stride length and fluid motion.

How to Learn This Technique

Learn how to “see” your dog’s normal movement so you can spot changes early. We teach you what to look for in their posture and stride to better advocate for them during vet visits.
